We stumbled across Sam Bosma’s work quite a while ago and instantly fell in love with his illustrations. Born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Sam moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he attended the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Many of the pieces shown here are from a on-going project that Sam is participating in called the Picture Book Report for which he is illustrating twelve scenes from JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

His blog is a great source of inspiration and he is constantly updating it with tons of work in progress and sketches. It’s great to see his process as he sketches expansive studies of characters from Hobbits to eagles!

We met Canadian artist Jacob Rolfe at Toronto’s Outdoor Art Exhibition in July. Completely unaware of his fame as an actor on Trailer Park Boys, we fell in love with his eye-popping eco-conscious art.

Jacob’s beautiful screen prints encourage viewers to eat local, grow their own veggies, and care for the environment.

In St John’s Newfoundland,  he’s best known for his trippy gig posters for local dub reggae group The Idlers.

Canadian fans of his work need look no further than Kid Icarus‘ shop in Toronto’s Kensington Market. Meanwhile, the best place to get a hold of his work remains his collection on GigPosters.com

Jacob will be exhibiting new work next spring (May5-June11 2011) at Open Studio in Toronto. Check back here for more details!

We love the work of American illustrator Kristina Collantes, recently featured in Hi Fructose Magazine.

Reminiscent of seventies psychedelic art, her illustrations invite us into an alien world where women with luminous eyes sprout plant-like antennae.

Illustrated with delicate lines and vibrant colours, don’t let Collantes playfulness fool you. There is something deep and mysterious happening in these images.
